• 1:25 CAIR Focus Students Unearth 1986 Time Capsule

  Elementary students in the Grandview C-4 School District gifted program FOCUS got to see what students thought were trendy items in the 1980's. The students will unearthed a time capsule Thursday, May 3rd at CAIR.
  
  The students from the elementary class in 1985 contacted current staff about digging up the time capsule and celebrating its unearthing and also the burial of a new capsule by students. Those students and the Superintendent, during that time Dr. Toni Stansberry, were present for the event.
  
  "Back in 1986, approximately thirty-two gifted students in the Grandview Gifted Program, Focus, buried a time capsule behind the building that is now the Grandview Assistance Program at 1121 Main Street. Now, some thirty-two years later, we unearth the time capsule. After unearthing the 1986 time capsule, we buried the 2018 time capsule by the flagpole in front of the CAIR Building, which will be retrieved in 2043," said Scott Bounds, FOCUS Instructor.
  
  Students in the Grandview FOCUS program also won Battle of the Brains Kansas City STEM competition and are in the middle of designing their $1 million exhibit to be opened at Science City next spring of 2019.

• 2:00 The BOTBKC Journey to Science City Featured

  On January 23, 2018, the 4th and 5th grade Focus students began the collaborative work for their winning exhibit design, The Big Brain Theory. The students met the design teams from Burns & McDonnell and Science City and began to discuss the timeline for making the The Big Brain Theory come to life. The project has a one-million dollar budget, and the students were charged with thinking about the most important parts of their design and how their design will integrate with the exhibits that currently surround the build-area. After the meeting, the students toured Burns & McDonnell and were amazed as they experienced the work environment of the 16th rated Fortune's 2017 list of Best Companies to Work For.
