The students from the elementary class in 1985 contacted current staff about digging up the time capsule and celebrating its unearthing and also the burial of a new capsule by students. Those students and the Superintendent, during that time Dr. Toni Stansberry, were present for the event.
"Back in 1986, approximately thirty-two gifted students in the Grandview Gifted Program, Focus, buried a time capsule behind the building that is now the Grandview Assistance Program at 1121 Main Street. Now, some thirty-two years later, we unearth the time capsule. After unearthing the 1986 time capsule, we buried the 2018 time capsule by the flagpole in front of the CAIR Building, which will be retrieved in 2043," said Scott Bounds, FOCUS Instructor.
Students in the Grandview FOCUS program also won Battle of the Brains Kansas City STEM competition and are in the middle of designing their $1 million exhibit to be opened at Science City next spring of 2019. -
